Glutathione is a compound containing 3 amino acids, glutamate, cysteine and glycine. It functions as an antioxidant, and is vital for fighting free radicals and the detoxification of harmful substances in the body. As people age or contract disease, glutathione levels in the blood decrease, causing a reduction in this much needed antioxidant. This is why other sources of glutathione are needed to replenish stores and avoid losses.
